William Dexter Ashmore Sr., known affectionately as Bill, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, at the age of 80 in Brandon, Florida. Born on August 22, 1944, in Tampa, Florida, Bill was the cherished son of the late Sidney L. Ashmore Sr. and Eula Hayman. His journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, a passion for his work, and a love for the great outdoors.
Bill's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy Ashmore, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. He was a devoted father to his sons, Dexter and his wife Diane Ashmore, and Wes and his wife Paula Ashmore. His brother Sidney L. Ashmore Jr. predeceased him, but he is fondly remembered by his siblings Jery Ashmore, Virginia Jones, Carol Chancey, and Mary Powell. Bill's joy was multiplied through his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who will miss their grandfather's warmth and guidance.
Throughout his life, Bill was a respected member of the Local Operating Engineers #925, where he applied his skills and work ethic to contribute to numerous projects. His commitment to his community was further demonstrated through his active involvement in the First Freewill Baptist Church of Tampa. Bill's hands were rarely still, as he was a master wood carver and a master mechanic, talents that he generously shared with those around him.
Bill's love for fishing and hunting was well-known, and he could often be found enjoying these pastimes, surrounded by nature's beauty. His ability to build or fix anything with his hands was not just a skill but a reflection of his resourceful and creative spirit. Those who knew Bill would describe him as loving, kind, and friendly—a man whose presence was a comfort and whose friendship was a gift.
Bill's life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships, hard work, and cherished moments. His laughter, wisdom, and gentle nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to William Dexter Ashmore Sr., we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love and marked by the positive impact he had on his family and community.
In honoring Bill's memory, we reflect on the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Bill's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched. His story does not end here, for he has left an indelible mark on this world, one that will be cherished and remembered for generations to come.
