Wilbur Gebhard, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, at the Veterans Hospital, where he had resided since 2011. Wilbur was born on July 20, 1943, in Thomaston, Georgia, to Eddie Cleo Pasley Gebhard Cummings, and Carl Gebhard, and was later raised by his stepfather, Edward Joseph Cummings Jr. He was a man of strong Christian faith who knew the Bible well and lived with kindness, humility, and grace. Wilbur proudly served his country in the United States Army from November 27, 1961, until his honorable discharge on April 16, 1964.He was gentle, nonjudgmental, and thoughtful, with a love for words, music, and humor. Wilbur enjoyed daily routines, arts and crafts, card games, and bingo, as well as special outings into the community, and he valued the friendships he formed throughout his life. Wilbur enjoyed being with people, finding comfort and encouragement in companionship, which brought him strength in his everyday life.Though he never married and had no children or siblings, he deeply cherished his large family of cousins. Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather; and by Marvin Green, Trudy Green, and Vivian Green Brewer. He is survived by his cousins: Lindy Murray, Bruce Brewer, Elton Brewer, Dennis Brewer, and many cousins.Wilbur will be remembered for his faith, kindness, gentle spirit, and quiet strength. He is now at peace in the presence of the Lord he loved.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Shiloh Baptist Church, 905 W Terrace Dr Plant City, FL 33563.
