Shirley Ann Carter, affectionately known as Ann to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, in Plant City, Florida. Born on January 25, 1937, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, Ann's life was a testament to her wisdom, faith, and thoughtful nature that touched the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
Ann's journey began as a beloved daughter in Mississippi, and she carried the warmth of her upbringing throughout her life. She was a beacon of light and love, not only in her own family but also within the community she served. Ann's heart found its match in Ralph Carter, her late husband, with whom she shared a life filled with love and devotion until his passing.
As a mother, Ann was unparalleled. She raised her children, Buddy Carter (Lois), Bobby Carter (Linda), and Bruce Carter, with a gentle strength and unwavering support. Her love extended to her siblings, Flo (Charlie) Haas, Wally (Virginia) Jones, Beth (Frank) Westmark, Steve Jones, and Deborah (Regis) Dixon. Though she mourned the loss of her sibling Paul Phillips, her family remained a source of immense pride and joy, including her cherished five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ann's professional life was marked by an impressive 68-year tenure as a Registered Nurse. Her career was a calling that saw her work alongside esteemed physicians such as Dr. Sanchez, Dr. Weeks, and Dr. Soylu at South Florida Baptist and Brandon Hospital. Ann's dedication to her profession was a reflection of her deep care for others, and she left an indelible mark on the lives of countless patients and colleagues.
A woman of deep faith, Ann was a dedicated member of the Plant City Church of God, where she found strength and community. Her melodious voice was a staple in the church choir, and her love for singing was only matched by her passion for cooking. Ann's kitchen was a place of gathering, where she shared her culinary creations with those she loved.
Ann was also an avid Buccaneers fan, cheering on her favorite team with the same enthusiasm she brought to every aspect of her life. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom and creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Ann Carter's legacy is one of unwavering faith, thoughtful wisdom, and a heart that was always open to giving. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of service, love, and grace that will continue to inspire all who knew her. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the indelible mark she has left on our hearts and in the world. Ann's memory will be eternally cherished, and her spirit will continue to guide us, just as it always has.
