Samuel Gordon Douglas, known affectionately as Sam to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, at the age of 63 in Valrico, Florida. Born on May 23, 1961, in Lakeland, Florida, Sam was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, friendly demeanor, and adventurous spirit.
Sam was predeceased by his parents, Jerry Mack Douglas and Nellie Dasinger. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his devoted wife, Lois Douglas of twenty years, his beloved daughter Hannah Douglas, and his caring sister Donna Ann Harrell. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a pillar of strength and support for them.
For many years, Sam was a dedicated employee at the Hillsborough County Road Department, where he was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to bring warmth and camaraderie to the workplace. His colleagues will remember him not only for his professional contributions but also for the enduring friendships he forged.
Sam's faith was a guiding force in his life. As a faithful follower of Jesus, he was an active member of the Countryside Baptist Church community. His faith was evident in the way he lived his life, always striving to embody the principles of kindness and compassion that are at the heart of his beliefs.
An avid outdoorsman, Sam found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was happiest when he was fishing or boating, embracing the tranquility of nature. His passion for Alabama football was unmatched, and he could often be found cheering on his favorite team with an enthusiasm that was infectious.
Those who knew Sam would describe him as a man who was not only loving and friendly but also someone who embraced adventure with open arms. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel valued and at ease, a testament to the depth of his character.
Sam's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to live on through the memories he has created with his family and friends. His life was a tapestry of love, friendship, and adventure, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
