Ruth Baker Obituary

Ruth Elizabeth Baker, a beacon of generosity and gentle grace, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024, at the age of 100. Born on August 11, 1924, in Toccoa, Georgia, Ruth's life was a tapestry of love, hard work, and dedication to her family and community.

Ruth's journey began in the rolling hills of Georgia, where she was imbued with the values of kindness and service that would define her life. Her path took her to Lakeland, Florida, where she ultimately drew her last breath, surrounded by the love of her family.

She is survived by her devoted son, David, and his wife, Doris Lacy, who remember her as the cornerstone of their family. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved son, George William Lacy, whose memory continued to light her life like a star in the night sky. Her legacy further lives on through her five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, each of whom carry a piece of her spirit and teachings.

Ruth was a cherished member of the Good Shepard Baptist Church of Tampa, where her faith nourished her soul and her community. Her involvement with the church went beyond the pews and into the hearts of all those she encountered. She was known for her thoughtfulness and her ability to turn every handshake into a meaningful connection.

Professionally, Ruth was a woman of many talents, never shying away from a new challenge or opportunity. Her career was as varied as it was fruitful, having had a hand in numerous ventures that showcased her adaptability and entrepreneurial spirit. Despite her busy work life, she always found time for what mattered most: her family.

One of Ruth's most cherished traditions was the Sunday morning breakfasts with her son David. These moments were not just about the food, but the laughter, stories, and memories created around the table. It was here that her qualities of being generous, gentle, and thoughtful shone brightest, as she listened to and nurtured the lives of her loved ones.

Ruth Elizabeth Baker's life was a testament to the impact one person can have on the world. Through her generosity, she touched the lives of many, always giving without expecting anything in return. Through her gentleness, she provided a safe harbor in the storm for anyone in need. And through her thoughtfulness, she made everyone she met feel seen, heard, and valued.

As we bid farewell to Ruth, we celebrate a century of life lived with purpose and love. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the stars guided sailors of old. While we mourn her loss, we also rejoice in the knowledge that her spirit lives on, not only in her family but in the countless lives she touched.

Ruth Elizabeth Baker's story does not end with her passing, for her legacy is written in the hearts of those who loved her and were loved by her. As we reflect on her life, we are reminded of the beauty of a life well-lived, and the enduring power of kindness, gentility, and thoughtfulness. Rest in peace, dear Ruth, until we meet again.
