John Russell Griffin, known to family and friends as Russell, passed away on
October 30, 2025. Russell was a native Floridian and grew up in the small farming
community of Dover where he lived his entire life. He was known and loved by
many as a man of God with a generous heart.
In 1964 he married the love of his life, EvaNell. He is survived by his children
Teresa Griffin and Brian Griffin.
His passion for cars, trucks and most of all Hot Rods started at a young age. He
was the kind of mechanic that could fix anything. When the youth group at church
went on a trip and the motor blew in the bus Russell and a group of men loaded up
a motor, he had in his shop drove to the bus and changed it out in one day to get the
kids back on their way. In his younger years the shop was known as Griffin,
Griffin & Raulerson Speed Shop. In the 1970’s he started farming and over the
years became a respected grower in the community. His dedication and service in
the industry touched the lives of many. Russell’s entrepreneurial spirit did not stop
there in 1994 at the age of 50, he started Griffin Utilities, Inc. and was the proud
owner for over three decades.
In addition to being known as hardworking he was also a storyteller, with quick
wit, always good for a one liner and a laugh that was contagious.
Together Russell & EvaNell were a force unmatched. Always there for someone in
need. Bearing witness to their faith through Upick Strawberry Season. Supporting
youth at church, 4H and FFA. He lost EvaNell seven months and one day before
his death. Confirmation that one can truly die from a broken heart.
On Tuesday, November 18th family and friends will gather at a graveside service to
celebrate his life. The family has asked if you have an ole Hot Rod to drive it in his honor.
