Robert McInerney Obituary

Robert J. "Mac" McInerney, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, in Lakeland, Florida, at the age of 92. Born on May 11, 1933, Mac was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Michael McInerney and Virginia Unversack. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Donna Groom and P.H. Layman.

Mac's life was a testament to his loving and kind nature, qualities that he effortlessly exuded in every aspect of his life. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Lee McInerney, and a guiding light to his sons, Robert McInerney II and Steve McInerney. His wisdom and warmth will be deeply missed by his three grandchildren, who were the joy of his later years.

A proud veteran, Mac served his country in the Navy, an experience that instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. His commitment to his community was evident in his active involvement with the First Baptist Church of Dover, where he was a respected and beloved member.

Mac's passion for classic vehicles was one of his most defining characteristics. He was a familiar face at local car shows, where his meticulously restored 1960 El Camino won Best of Show at the Plant City Car Show. His love for vintage craftsmanship also shone through in his 1960 wooden Cris Craft boat, which he proudly displayed at the Lake Mirror Car Show. These interests allowed him to connect with fellow enthusiasts and share stories of his restoration adventures.

Mac's legacy is one of unwavering love, kindness, and a zest for life that inspired all who knew him. His ability to see the beauty in the world and in the people around him was a gift that he generously shared, leaving a lasting impact on his family, friends, and community.

As we bid farewell to Robert J. "Mac" McInerney, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of cherished moments, enduring friendships, and the love of a family that meant the world to him. He will be remembered not only for the life he led but also for the countless ways he made our lives richer and fuller. Mac's memory will be held in the hearts of those who loved him as a beacon of the kindness and warmth that he embodied every day.
