Robert Cannon Obituary

Robert Cannon, a cherished companion, beloved family member, and respected community figure, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, in his hometown of Plant City, Florida. Born on October 14, 1941, in the same close-knit community, Robert's life was a testament to his loving, kind, and friendly nature.

Predeceased by his parents, S. Alonzo Cannon and E. Ethel Clendening, and his sister, Virginia Harrison, Robert's legacy of warmth and generosity is carried on by his devoted companion of 50 years, Gwen Shoemaker, his stepson, Danny (Alice) Shoemaker, his siblings, Marvin Cannon, Linda (Jerry) Wimberly, Janet (Peter) Balistreri, and brother-in-law, Jim Harrison. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he nurtured each relationship with the same care and dedication that he applied to every aspect of his life.

Robert's work ethic was unparalleled. He dedicated 34 years of service as a mechanic and superintendent at W.R. Grace, where his expertise and leadership were invaluable. His commitment to his country was evident in his four years of service in the Air Force, a period of his life he recalled with pride and honor. Robert's faith was an integral part of who he was, and he practiced it devoutly as a member of the Baptist community at Bethany.

A man of many interests, Robert had a particular passion for dogs, especially rescues. His gentle and compassionate spirit made him a friend to all creatures, great and small. His home was often a haven for dogs in need, and his care for them reflected the immense love he had for all living beings.

Those who knew Robert would describe him as the epitome of loving kindness. His friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in Plant City, where he formed lasting friendships and contributed positively to the fabric of the community. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Robert's life was a journey of love, service, and friendship. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring impact he has made on the lives of so many. Robert Cannon's story is one of a life well-lived, filled with moments of joy, companionship, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others.

As we honor his memory, let us remember the laughter, the wisdom, and the unwavering support he provided. Robert's spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the memories we hold of him will forever be a source of comfort and strength. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
