Porter Herbert Hare passed away on October 10, 2023, in Plant City, Florida at the age of 73. Porter was born on August 3, 1950, and grew up in Dover, a place he cherished and never left. He graduated from Turkey Creek High School in 1968. Porter's friends and family describe him as a loving father, a passionate farmer, and a generous soul. His children were his pride and joy, and he left no stone unturned to give them the best in life.
Porter was a fifth-generation strawberry farmer who carried on the family's proud tradition for many years before passing the family legacy to his son. He was usually the first one on the farm, witnessing the break of dawn, and the last one to leave, bidding goodbye to the setting sun. Porter also had a love for weightlifting and was often found in his home gym striving for one more rep. In addition to farming and weightlifting, Porter enjoyed history, quoting movies, slow-pitch softball, and summer vacations in the mountains with his family. Porter never allowed his heart condition to slow him down.
Porter was preceded in death by his parents, Teresa and Herbert Hare, and daughter, Kristen Hare. Surviving loved ones include his son Jacob (Brittany) Hare, siblings Clifford Hare, Michael (Cyndi) Hare, Lila Hare Greene, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Porter Herbert Hare's legacy will live on in the strawberry fields of Dover. He will be deeply missed, and his loss leaves a void that can never be filled.
Friends and family will be received October 17, 2023 from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM at Sydney First Church of God, 1432 Sydney Dover Road Dover, Florida. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 PM.
