Patricia Roney Obituary

Patricia Ann Roney, a beacon of love and joy, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 83. Born on February 18, 1941, in Newton, Texas, Patricia was the daughter of the late Russell Simmons and Annie Lee Smith. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, friendship, and unwavering faith.

Patricia's journey began in the small town of Newton, but her effervescent spirit touched countless hearts far beyond her hometown. She married Henry James Roney on March 17, 1958, she was 17. She was his waitress at a small town cafe in Newton, Texas. They knew each other for three weeks and he said "do you want to get married and move to Florida with me?" She said, Yes! Their love story began!! She was a devoted sister to her siblings, sharing life's joys and sorrows with her late brothers, Carlton, RA, David, Tom, and Garland Simmons, and cherishing moments with her surviving siblings, Dee Whitmore, Glenda Dunn, Anita Dickerson, and Charles Simmons.

As a mother, Patricia's love knew no bounds. She was predeceased by her son Wayne Roney, and her nurturing legacy continues through her children, James Roney and Chastity Robinson, as well as her daughters and sons-in-law, Brent Robinson, Donna Shilling, Cheryl Denney, and Mary Ward. Patricia's role as "Granny" was one she embraced with every ounce of her being, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories for her grandchildren, Gabriel, Joshua, Ava, Preston, Brett and Andi.

Patricia's zest for life was as boundless as her love for her family. Her first love was Jesus, and her faith was the cornerstone of her existence. Her second love was her role as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, and the favorite Granny to all who knew her. She found immense joy in playing with her grandchildren, whether it was rolling down hills or jumping into piles of leaves, she was always the heart of the adventure.

Never one to miss a school performances, grandparent's day, sporting event, or dance competition, Patricia was there, cheering on her loved ones with an infectious energy that could light up any room. Her love for travel was evident, always ready with a cheerful "let's go!" and a belief that Heaven would resemble the beauty of Alaska.

Patricia's hobbies were as vibrant as her personality. She never met a casino or bingo game she didn't adore, and her garden was a testament to her green thumb, blooming with the most beautiful roses, fruits, and vegetables. A master in the kitchen, she fried up the best dishes and made a peach cobbler that was second to none.

Her spirit of service was profound, finding happiness in caring for others. Her youthful spirit, energy, and humor were her trademarks, as was her radiant smile. Patricia was always on the move, finding stillness only when there was no fun to be had, no work to do, or no one to care for.

A lover of Southern Baptist hymns and sweet tea, Patricia was full of surprises, including her aversion to chocolate, which would always elicit a playful "yuck!" from her. Her compassion and love for others were boundless, and to know Patricia was to love her forever.

Patricia Ann Roney will be remembered as a loving, kind, and friendly soul whose presence enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and service will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we take solace in the knowledge that her spirit will forever remain a guiding light in the lives of her cherished family and friends.
