Maureen Hickey Obituary

Maureen D. Hickey, a vibrant soul cherished by all who knew her, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, in Miami, Florida. Born on May 27, 1948, in Rochester, New York, Maureen's life was a testament to the power of joy, music, and unwavering commitment to community.

Maureen's early years were spent in the loving embrace of her family in Rochester. She was the beloved daughter of the late John L. and Mary J. Hickey and sister to the late John P. Hickey. Her family's legacy of kindness and service became the cornerstone of her own life's work.

Her passion for learning and adventure led her to further her education at a university in Miami, followed by time spent at a university in Hawaii. The experiences and knowledge gained during these years would shape Maureen into the remarkable woman she became, one who was always eager to embrace new challenges and opportunities.

Professionally, Maureen dedicated herself to serving others. As the Office Manager for Crime Stoppers, she was instrumental in creating a television spot that was nominated for an Emmy, a testament to her creativity and excellence in her field. Her commitment to the community extended beyond her work as she became an integral member of the Emerald Society. Within this organization, Maureen's love for music shined brightly as she played drums for the Drum Pipe band, supporting the Law Enforcement branch with her rhythmic talents.

Maureen's interests and loves were as diverse and rich as her personality. She had an unwavering passion for all things Ireland, a country that captured her heart with its music, culture, and spirit. Her love for music was only matched by the love she had for her friends and family, to whom she was interesting, loving, and passionate in every interaction. Maureen's warmth and generosity were the melodies that played through the symphony of her life, touching everyone she met.

In the words of the great William Butler Yeats, "Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I had such friends." Maureen lived these words, finding her glory not in accolades or achievements but in the richness of her relationships and the love she shared with those around her.

Maureen's life was a beautiful composition of dedication, love, and passion. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who carry her memory in their hearts.

As we bid farewell to Maureen D. Hickey, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart generously given, and a spirit that will forever dance to the music she loved so much. Her journey on earth may have ended, but the echoes of her laughter, the rhythm of her drumbeat, and the harmony of her love will resonate for eternity.
