Margaret Mignon Millin

Margaret Mignon McCurdy Millin was born November 3, 1932 and passed away beautifully and peacefully on September 3, 2024 at the wonderful age of 91.

She was born in Bristow OK, a rural farming and oil town southwest of Tulsa OK. Formally and legally her name was Margaret, after an Aunt. She preferred Mignon (her Parents thought it was a pretty name). Some friends nicknamed her Mac.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck when she was only four years old. Her Mother suddenly died. Thanks to small town community support, her Childhood was a relatively happy one in Bristow...

And after Grammar School, the moving started...

She was always a little disappointed that few would believe that this young teenager lived in Oak Ridge TN - a secret location for The Manhattan Project where uranium was processed during WWII.

When she moved to Union MO for more High School years, she made lifelong friends and they called themselves THE QUEENS!

Next was Northeast Missouri Teachers College in Kirksville MO where her "Uncle Walter Ryle" was President. This move was monumental - she met her future husband - John {Jack} Joseph Millin - at a dance during one of the first days on campus!

Mignon and Jack married, she achieved her degree, and they both taught school in La Plata MO. When Jack enrolled in the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, the moving adventures continued by way of an Internship in Tulsa OK, followed by a practice in Champion OH, a hospital in Allentown PA, a practice in Atlanta GA (that lasted all of six months), another hospital in Warren OH, and then back to Kirksville MO! At this point, for all of the moving and raising of Children, she was a full time Homemaker.

And then there were more moves: Indianapolis IN to start a new hospital, back to Tulsa OK to retire (not more than a year), an international locale to the Wurzburg Germany Army Post, back to the USA in Longwood FL and Columbia SC and finally a real retirement in Plant City FL!

When in Germany, she and Jack took advantage of easy trips to Sweden and Norway, England and France. [She and Jack celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Ireland!]

Everywhere she lived she became fast friends as confirmed by her many address books! In addition to supporting Jack's dreams, she dabbled in gardening, tried bowling, joined a Bridge group and enjoyed more vacations to NYC, Hawaii, Las Vegas and The Ozarks. She and Jack took the Family to the 1964 Worlds Fair in Queens NY, Niagara Falls and Expo '67 in Montreal Canada, the Stone Cabin in Olmstedville NY Adirondacks, Long Island, Colorado, and one giant road trip in "The Motor Home" to the Black Hills of SD!

When at home, she was always happy to cook and entertain. She hosted giant New Year's Eve parties, cooked enough food for an army every Thanksgiving (including the famous Green Goo), and bought 'a gazillion' cookbooks to try out new recipes on Jack. In addition to cookbooks, she loved to read, as evidenced by many full shelves around the house. And as the Family grew, she gifted books to her Grand- and Great-grandchildren every Birthday and Christmas. In addition, she was proud of her Cherokee heritage through her Mother. And thanks to Emmet Starr's HISTORY OF THE CHEROKEE INDIANS, she traced herself as the 4th Great-Granddaughter of Nancy Ward and was a card-carrying Citizen of the Cherokee Nation.

A fabulous 90th birthday celebration was held in Somerset NJ on November 3, 2022 where she was surprised by Family and Friends for an all-day joyful party full of balloons, music, food and of course, cake and candles! It was her last trip from her last home in Plant City FL.
Who would have guessed that this little girl born in The Great Depression would have such an incredible life!
Her Parents were Almeda Jane Perry and William Edward McCurdy. Her Big Sister was Patricia Jean McCurdy. Then she lost her Son, John, and later, her Husband, John. Her living legacy includes Daughter, Patricia, and Son, Michael; Grandchildren Sarah, Katherine and Meredith; Greatgrandchildren Serenity, Nicholas, Mignon (her namesake!), RyLynn and Jaxxon. She loved, and was loved by, all Family (including her Godchildren) and Friends.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, October 25th, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Clement Catholic Church, 1104 N Alexander St, Plant City, FL 33563.
