Mabel Josephine Martin, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, in her hometown of Plant City, Florida. Born on May 25, 1952, to the late Ben Howard and Christine Brown, Mabel's life was a testament to the power of family, faith, and community.
Mabel's journey began in the warm embrace of Plant City, where she was raised alongside her eight brothers and sisters. Her early years were filled with the laughter and camaraderie that only a large family can provide. Though she was preceded in death by her siblings and her cherished granddaughter, Makenli Martin, Mabel's legacy of love continued to flourish through her devoted husband, Dewey Martin. Their enduring partnership of fifty-eight years was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew them.
Mabel's nurturing spirit was further reflected in her children, Evelyn (Tim) Maiden, Johnny (Nita) Martin, Virginia Williams, Jean (Peanut) Bassinger, and Frank (Jessica) Martin. She was a proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, each of whom carried a piece of her heart and her teachings.
A woman of deep faith, Mabel served as a minister at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, where she shared her unwavering belief in the goodness of the Lord with her congregation. Her commitment to her faith was evident in every aspect of her life, guiding her actions and comforting her in times of need.
Mabel's interests extended beyond the church walls. She was an avid player of bingo, a hobby that brought her joy and camaraderie. Her artistic side shone brightly through her love for diamond art, a craft that allowed her to create beauty and share it with those around her. But above all, Mabel cherished family trips, moments where she could gather her loved ones close and create memories that would last a lifetime.
Those who knew Mabel would describe her as the epitome of loving and kind. She had a smile that could light up a room and a hug that
could heal a broken spirit. Her presence was a comfort, her words a balm, and her actions a reflection of the love she held for her family and her God.
Mabel Josephine Martin's life was a tapestry woven with threads of devotion, compassion, and grace. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we take solace in the knowledge that her legacy will continue to live on through the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely. Her memory will be cherished, her teachings upheld, and her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her family and all who were blessed to know her.
