Lyman Eugene James, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully in his home in Plant City, FL on October 6, 2023. Born on July 30, 1951, in Ravenwood, MO, to Sandra and Rex James, he lived a life characterized by a profound love for his family, his country, and his community.
Lyman was a proud graduate of Purdue University, where he nurtured his lifelong love for the Boilermakers. As a devoted fan, he rarely missed a game and even insisted on scheduling his own memorial service to avoid a conflict with a Purdue game day. It was a testament to his unwavering dedication to his alma mater and his light-hearted humor.
Before his graduation, Lyman joined and continued to proudly served in the United States Air Force. His patriotism was not just evident in his service, but also in his daily life. He was a member of the Hillsborough United Methodist Church, where he was known for his unwavering faith and commitment to his community.
Lyman's love for sports extended beyond his loyalty to the Boilermakers. He was a big fan of the Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Rays, loved playing left field in softball and was a power hitter for an All Star SAC Softball Team while in the Air Force, and found joy and frustration in the game of golf. Lyman's interests were not confined to sports; he had a deep appreciation for American history and was always ready with a funny story or an interesting historical fact.
Lyman is survived by his loving wife, Dianne James; his children, Becky East and her husband Greg, Bradley James and his wife Jennifer, and Ashley James; his grandchildren, Kevin "JR" James, Keaton James, Kole James, Connor East, Olivia East, and bonus grandchild; Reggie Brown; and his siblings, Dennis James, Marcia Miller, and Stan James. Each of them was a source of great joy and pride for Lyman, and he cherished every moment he spent with them.
Above all, his love for his family was evident in everything he did. Lyman James was a good man, always ready with a kind word and a helping hand. His legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those he left behind.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hillsborough United Methodist Church 9008 Harney Rd Tampa FL 33637. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 PM.
