Leon Mitchell Obituary

Leon Edison Mitchell, a man of faith and adventure, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, at the age of 95 in Plant City, Florida. Born on November 6, 1928, in Covington, Alabama, Leon's life was a testament to the values of hard work, generosity, and commitment to his community.

Leon was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joyce Mitchell, and his parents, Joel Helms Mitchell and Pashia Ardella Barfield. He is survived by his loving sons, Steve Mitchell and Stan Mitchell (Tammy), his stepsons, Jim Williams and Randy Williams, and his siblings Mavis, Florine, Claira, Albert, Aaron, and Milas. As well as his cherished four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor his legacy.

Leon's career as a machinery foreman at F.M.C. spanned many years, during which he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues for his expertise and leadership. His retirement did not mark the end of his service; instead, he dedicated countless hours as a volunteer at South Florida Baptist Hospital, where his presence was a comfort to many.

A man of deep spiritual conviction, Leon was a former member of Midway Baptist and later found a spiritual home at Church on the Rock. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his actions and his relationships with others.

An avid outdoorsman, Leon found joy in the simplicity of camping and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to embrace the beauty of nature and the thrill of adventure. His love for the outdoors was only matched by his generosity of spirit and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Those who knew Leon would describe him as adventurous, generous, and faith-filled. He lived a life that embodied the spirit of these words, touching the lives of many with his kindness and his unwavering belief in the goodness of people.

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Leon's life was indeed a success, measured not in material accomplishments but in the love he gave and the lives he touched.

Leon Edison Mitchell's story is one of a journey well-traveled, a life well-lived, and a legacy that will continue to inspire. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those he loved and served.
