Leo David Barber Jr., known affectionately as Leo to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, at the age of 93, in his hometown of Tampa, Florida. Born on December 6, 1930, in the same vibrant city, Leo's life was a testament to his enduring love for his community and his unwavering dedication to his family.
Leo was predeceased by his parents, Leo David Barber Sr. and Martha Alice Fernandez, and his beloved daughter, Patricia Ann Childers and his siblings, Joseph Barber, Robert Barber, Herman E. Barber, Jr., Irene B. Thompson, Margaret Carr, Mildred Musick, and Rose Allen. His legacy continues through his devoted wife of over 70 years, Mary K. Barber, his loving children, Chyrll Bowyer (Hugh) and David Barber Sr. (Lisa), his caring sister, Nancy Prall (Robert), his cherished seven grandchildren, and his adored thirteen great-grandchildren.
Leo's life was marked by his honorable service in the Air Force, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of patriotism and duty. After his military service, he channeled his passion for craftsmanship into his business, Amcraft Cabinet Shop, where he was not only a partner but also the heart and soul of the operation and known as Daddy Leo. His love for woodworking was more than a profession; it was an art that he perfected over the years and shared generously with others.
A man of faith, Leo was a dedicated member of the Dover Advent Christian Church, where he found spiritual solace and a community that shared his values. His involvement in the church was a reflection of his loving and kind nature, attributes that were the cornerstone of his character.
Those who knew Leo would describe him as a man who embodied love and kindness in every aspect of his life. Whether it was through his interactions with family and friends, his meticulous work with wood, or his service to his country and church, Leo left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched.
Leo's life story is one of dedication, love, and kindness. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring impact he has made on his family and community. His memory will live on as a beacon of the values he held dear, inspiring future generations to live with the same integrity and warmth that he demonstrated every day.
Leo David Barber Jr. will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
