Kenneth W. Varner

Kenneth Wayne Varner, known affectionately to friends and family as Ken, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, in Tampa, FL, after a valiant battle with dementia. Born on October 4, 1946, in Buffalo, Missouri, Ken's vibrant spirit and enduring kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered throughout his 78 years of life.

Ken proudly served his country in the United States Army, completing a tour in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970, and reenlisting to serve until his retirement as an E6 in 1990. His dedication to service did not end with his military career; he continued to serve his community through his work at water treatment plants across Missouri, Kansas, and Florida. Ken's commitment to the wellbeing of others was a testament to his character and the values he held dear.

Beyond his professional life, Ken was a man of many interests. He cherished the moments spent sharing his memories of the military, stories that captivated and educated those around him. A lover of the outdoors, Ken found solace in sunbathing by the pool and taking daily walks, embracing the simple pleasures life had to offer. His faith was important to him, and he was a regular attendee at his local church. Ken's generous spirit led him to volunteer his time for causes close to his heart, and he never turned down the opportunity to enjoy a good meal with loved ones.

Ken's intelligence, friendliness, and interesting nature made him a beloved figure in his community. He connected with people on a deep level, always eager to learn and share. As the famous quote by Maya Angelou goes, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Ken made everyone around him feel valued and important, a quality that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Ken is survived by a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy: his son, Joseph Varner and his wife Jennifer; his daughter, Amy Varner and her husband Mark; stepchildren Bobby Beach, Leslie Beach and his wife Susan, and Glenda Touchton and her husband Matthew. His memory will also be cherished by his siblings Janice Ortner, Margie Hamilton, and Ernie Varner. Ken's joy was multiplied by his grandchildren Joshua French, Jeramiah French and his wife Makayla, Tommy Brigance, and Alisha Brigance, as well as his great-grandson Ryder French. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews Pamela Brooks, Brenda Howe, Jeffrey Ortner, Jami Holdt, Christopher Varner, Farris Varner, George Wayne Hamilton, and Karen Burk.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, William L. and Thelma M. Varner; his first wife, Carol Varner; his second wife, Linda Varner; and his son, Kenny Varner. Each of these individuals held a special place in his heart, and he is now reunited with them in eternal peace.

Kenneth Wayne Varner's life story is one of dedication, love, and service. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on in the memories we hold and the lives he has touched. Ken's journey on earth may have concluded, but the impact of his life will resonate for generations to come.

A funeral service will be held on March 21, 2025 at Bushnell National Cemetery located at 6502 SW 102nd Ave. Bushnell, Florida 33513. The service will begin at 12:30 PM and conclude at 1:30PM. A luncheon will follow at Fred's Market Place at 1401 W Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. Plant City, FL around 3 PM.
