Joseph Heyward Simmons, known to many as Joe, passed away on May 18, 2026, in Zephyrhills, Florida, at the age of 61. Born on June 10, 1964, in Jacksonville, Florida, he lived a life marked by kindness, love, and steady devotion to the people and places that mattered most to him.
Joe was the son of the late Henry and Joanne Tomlinson. He carried their memory with him throughout his life and honored them through the way he treated others, with warmth, respect, and a gentle spirit. Those who knew him will remember him as a loving and kind man whose presence brought comfort and steadiness to his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Emily Garza and Kayley Humphreys, who were a source of great pride and joy in his life. Joe also leaves behind his siblings, Deborah and her husband Robert Lastinger, and Doug and his wife Gina Tomlinson, along with his six grandchildren, who brought him happiness and a sense of legacy. He is also survived by his nieces, Kyra Lastinger and Faith Tomlinson, who will cherish his memory and the love he shared with his family.
Joe made his living as a warehouse operator in Citrus, where he was known for his dependable work ethic and quiet dedication. He approached his responsibilities with care and consistency, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him. His life reflected the values of perseverance, humility, and service, and he carried those qualities into every part of his daily life.
A faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Lithia, Joe found strength and fellowship in his church community. His faith was an important part of who he was, and it guided him through both joyful and difficult times. He valued the friendships and spiritual support he found there, and he appreciated the sense of belonging that came from being part of a congregation rooted in care and compassion.
