Johnnie Ray (J.R.) Kidd, a cherished family man and esteemed community member, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, in Lakeland, Florida, at the age of 86. Born on March 15, 1939, in Opp, Alabama, Johnnie's journey through life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his loved ones and his passion for farming.
Predeceased by his parents, JC Kidd and Ida Maddox, Johnnie's legacy of love and kindness is carried on by his devoted wife of 66 years, Everline Kidd, married March 20, 1958. Together, they built a life filled with joy and laughter, welcoming their daughter Marlene (George) Walker. Johnnie was a proud patriarch, his wisdom and guidance shaping the lives of his grandchildren, George J (Joan) Walker, Heather Walker, and his adored great-granddaughter, Lilliana Walker. His siblings, Joel (Eleanor) Kidd and Phyllis (Danny) Stafford, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends affectionately known as "his Strays," also survive him, each bearing the imprint of his loving spirit.
Johnnie's professional life was marked by his role as a supervisor for the Department of Transportation, where his leadership and work ethic were respected by all. His colleagues remember him not just as a supervisor, but as a mentor and friend who brought out the best in those around him.
A man of the earth, Johnnie found solace in the rhythms of nature. His hands, often stained with soil, were a testament to his love for farming. He stayed busy tending to his land, growing crops that not only fed his family but also brought the community together. His famous boiled peanuts were a staple at countless gatherings, a simple pleasure that brought smiles to many faces.
Johnnie was the epitome of a family man. His family was his number one priority, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His love for his family was evident in the way he lived his life, always putting their needs before his own. The Kidd household was a hub of warmth and hospitality, with Johnnie often hosting cookouts and inviting friends and family to join in the festivities. His friendly demeanor and kind heart made everyone feel welcome and loved.
Those who knew Johnnie will remember him as a loving, kind, and friendly soul. His presence was a comfort, his laughter contagious, and his advice sought after by many. Johnnie's life was a testament to the power of love, hard work, and community. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we bid farewell to Johnnie Ray (J.R.) Kidd, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that touched so many others in profound and lasting ways. His journey on this earth may have ended, but his story will be told for generations to come, a narrative of a man who truly made a difference in the world. Rest in peace, Johnnie. Your love will forever be our guide.
