Irma Josephine Barta Alexander

CHARLESTON, SC - Irma Josephine Barta Alexander, a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2021. A Plant City native, she had moved to Charleston in 2016 to live with her eldest son, Gary.

Irma was born on February 19, 1931, daughter of William Joseph Barta and Mary Emma Pelle Barta. She grew up on her parent's farm on Gordon Street in Plant City and graduated from Plant City High School, Class of 1948.
After high school she attended business school in Lakeland, graduating in 1950. She then worked in Plant City at Tampa Electric Company and the J. William Horsey Corporation. In 1952 she was a member of the Florida Strawberry Festival Queen's Court.

In 1953 she married Roy W. Alexander Jr. They moved several times during Roy's military and federal civil service careers, finally returning to Plant City in 1991 following Roy's retirement. Roy passed away in November 2000. Irma was a lifelong member of St. Clement Catholic Church.

She is survived by sons Gary and Eric, grandson Adam Alexander, granddaughter Sydney Alexander, brother Robert Barta (Judith), nephews Stephen Barta (Rebecka), Kevin Barta (Lori), niece Jennifer Graham (Kevin), and great nieces Hailey, Jade, and Alexa Barta.

A time of family sharing will take place Monday, August 16, 2021 at 6:00 PM at Haught Funeral Home 708 W Dr MLK Jr Blvd Plant City Fl 33563.
