Hortencia Barrera, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 72. Born on February 1, 1952, in Matamoros, Mexico, Hortencia was the cherished daughter of the late Pedro Torres and Guadalupe. She brought light and joy into the lives of all who knew her.
Hortencia's life was a testament to her enduring strength and compassion. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Santos Barrera, and together they shared a life full of love and devotion. Hortencia was a loving mother, not only to her own children but to all who were graced by her presence. She was predeceased by her son Efren Barrera, whose memory she held close to her heart. Her legacy continues through her children, Santos Barrera Jr., Cesar (Sylvia) Barrera, Claudia Barrera, and Noe (Anna) Barrera. Hortencia's eleven brothers and sisters, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren will forever cherish the memories and lessons she imparted.
Throughout her life, Hortencia dedicated herself to her work as a custodian at public schools, where she was not only an employee but a friend and confidante to many. Her hard work and dedication to the well-being of the students and staff did not go unnoticed, and she left a lasting impact on the community.
A devout member of St. Clement Catholic Church, Hortencia's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. She found joy in fellowship and service, always ready to lend a hand or offer a prayer. Her love for the casino was well-known among her friends and family, bringing excitement and laughter to her leisure time.
Hortencia will be remembered as the embodiment of love and kindness. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support were her gifts to the world. She had the unique ability to make everyone feel loved and valued, a trait that endeared her to many.
As we bid farewell to Hortencia Barrera, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart generously shared. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Hortencia's memory will be treasured forever, a reminder of the profound impact one life can make. Rest in peace, dear Hortencia; your love lives on in us all.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM at St. Clement Catholic Church, 1104 N. Alexander Street, Plant City, FL 33563
A mass will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 10:00 AM, at St. Clement Catholic Church.
