Hazel S. Willis, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024, at the age of 96, in Plant City, Florida. Born on May 1, 1928, in Dothan, Alabama, Hazel's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of the human spirit.
Hazel was predeceased by her beloved husbands, James "Jim" Willis and Benjamin "Benny" Tanner. She was a cherished stepmother to Bob Tanner, Don Tanner, Ted Tanner, and Shirley Crum. Although she outlived her siblings Cecil Smith, Annie Wise, Willie B. Smith, and Frances Eddins, she leaves behind a great niece; Tanya Reid who loved and cared for her for many years. Hazel's legacy continues through her nine step-grandchildren, fifteen step-great-grandchildren, and nine step-great-great-grandchildren, and all her nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and great- great -great nieces and nephews all of whom she adored and who brought immense joy to her life.
A lifelong member of Whitehurst Baptist Church, Hazel's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. Her gentle spirit and loving nature were evident to all who knew her.
Hazel's generosity knew no bounds. She had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, and her home was always a sanctuary for those in need of comfort or a listening ear. Her kindness was a gentle force that changed lives, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
As we say goodbye to Hazel S. Willis, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, grace, and the quiet strength that comes from a heart full of compassion. She was a precious soul who will be deeply missed by all, yet her spirit will remain a guiding light for her family and the many lives she touched.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with her loved and cherished ones who have gone before her. Hazel's story does not end with her passing, for her legacy of love and generosity will continue to ripple through the generations.
