In the warm embrace of our Lord, Edith Evelyn Howard, a steadfast servant of God and a beacon of love and light in her community, was called to her eternal home on January 15, 2024. Born on August 3, 1930, in Sanford, Florida, to the late Robert and Norma (Harper) Lee, Edith's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and the joy she found in serving others. A lifelong resident of Plant City, Edith's journey on this earth concluded in Lakeland, Florida, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a cherished daughter to, Robert Lee and Norma Lee Smith, and a loving sister to her predeceased siblings, Bobby Lee, Alfred Lee, Ruth Anderson, Ted Lee, Dennis Lee, and Rhuenell. Her beloved husband, Gene Howard, had preceded her in death, as did her son-in-law, John Walmsley. Her legacy continues through her devoted children, Michael (Jeannie) Howard, Joey (Barbara) Howard, Debbie Walmsley, and Norma Jean (James) Kennedy. Her grandchildren, Justin (Nicole) Howard, Dana Norrington, Sara (Kevin) Athans, Megan (Aaron) Dobiesz, and her great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tristen, Grace Norrington, Ben, Lowen, Noelle Howard, Ryder, and Eli Dobiesz, Emma, and Ian Athans, will carry on the love and lessons she instilled in them. Edith retired after twenty-seven years of dedicated service as a secretary at Eastside Baptist Church Daycare. Her commitment did not wane upon retirement, for she also served as a beloved teacher, nurturing the minds and spirits of the young ones entrusted to her care. For over 65 years, she taught Sunday School, sharing the Word of God with generations of believers and guiding them on their spiritual journeys. Her hands, always busy, found pleasure in the simplicity of yardwork and the beauty of gardening. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling and above all, the Bible was her most cherished companion. Family and friends will be received Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 10:00 am, at Eastside Baptist 1318 E. Calhoun St., Plant City, FL 33563. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Edith will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Plant City. Her graveside service will be Monday, January 22, 2024 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to Good Shepherd Hospice of Lakeland.
