Dorothy "Dottie" Petty, a beacon of faith and joy, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, at the age of 90 in Plant City, Florida. Born on January 18, 1934, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Dottie's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and her ability to touch the hearts of those around her.
Dottie's early years in Chattanooga laid the foundation for a life full of love, laughter, and dedication. She carried the warmth of her Southern roots throughout her life, spreading kindness and compassion wherever she went. Dottie's journey led her to Plant City, Florida, where she would spend her final years surrounded by the community she cherished.
Professionally, Dottie served with distinction in clerical roles within the public school system, where her meticulous work and warm demeanor left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the many students she encountered. Her commitment to excellence and her supportive nature were hallmarks of her career.
Beyond her professional life, Dottie was an active and devoted member of the First Assembly of God in Plant City. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's challenges and triumphs. Dottie's love for travel allowed her to explore the world, creating memories and friendships that endured throughout her life.
Dottie's sense of humor and passion for life made her a joy to be around. She navigated life's ups and downs with grace and a smile that could light up a room. Her laughter was infectious, and her stories were a source of delight for all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Predeceased by her husbands, Wilson Lee Hardeman and Wallace Eugene Petty, as well as her siblings, Chester Miller, Melvin Miller, Wanda Jones Taylor, and Jewel Dyer, Dottie's legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her children, Steven (Mildred) Hardeman, Regina (Dwane) Swindal, and Jeffrey (Stephanie) Hardeman, her four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory and the lessons of love and faith she instilled in them.
Dottie's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of devotion, humor, and passion. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, yet her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we take solace in the knowledge that her light will never fade from the lives she touched.
Friends and family will be received Monday, June 17, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Assembly of God, 602 Charlie Griffin Rd Plant City, FL 33566.
A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM.
