Doris Lucille Hawthorne

September 11, 1928 ~ August 21, 2023 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Obituary

Our beloved sister in Christ, Doris Lucille Hawthorne, was called to her heavenly home on August 21, 2023. Born on September 11, 1928, in Morgan, Georgia, Doris lived a life filled with love, service, and unyielding faith. She was a beacon of love and compassion in our community, touching the lives of many with her kind heart and nurturing spirit.

Doris was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband, Griffin Hawthorne, and a nurturing mother to her children. She was predeceased by her sons Thomas, David, and Harold Hawthorne, and her daughter, Diane Baggett. She leaves behind a legacy in her daughter Elaine Morris and her sister Martha Dixon, who is married to Donald. Her family tree flourished through her, with nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom were blessed to have known and been loved by her.

Her professional life was a testament to her caring nature. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at McIntosh Retirement Home for over twenty years, where she was a source of comfort to countless souls. Her strong hands provided care, and her warm heart provided solace to those in their twilight years. Her dedication was an embodiment of the biblical principle, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'(Matthew 25:40, NIV)

Doris was a faithful member of Knights Baptist Church, where her commitment to the Lord was evident in her active involvement. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she served as a shining example to all who knew her. As the good book says, 'She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.' (Proverbs 31:25, NIV). Indeed, Doris lived out these words, demonstrating strength in adversity, maintaining dignity in all circumstances, and facing the future with laughter and grace.

As we remember Doris, let us not dwell on the sorrow of her passing but celebrate the joy of her life and the promise of eternal life that she now enjoys. As the Apostle Paul wrote, 'For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.' (Philippians 1:21, NIV). Doris lived for Christ, and now she has gained her heavenly reward.

Doris Lucille Hawthorne was a woman of faith, a woman of service, and a woman of love. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. As we mourn her departure from this earthly realm, let us find comfort in knowing that she is now resting in the arms of our Savior. In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore. Until then, Doris, you will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
