Donald Weldon Obituary

Donald "Donnie" Weldon, a beloved husband, father, PaPa, and friend, passed away in Asheville, NC, on October 22, 2023. Born in Bartow, FL, on December 16, 1950, to the late Dobbie Lee Weldon and Myrtis Jewel Trowell, Donnie was a kind and thoughtful man.

Donnie is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Sharon Weldon, and their two loving daughters, Lauren (Scott) Burkott and Lindsey (Timothy) Crenshaw. His legacy will live on through his four grandchildren, Leilani Noel Burkott, Layla Monroe Crenshaw, Alexander Scott Burkott, and Harrison Wade Crenshaw. Donnie is also survived by his siblings, Leon (Linda) Weldon, Russell Weldon, and Daphne Weldon. He was preceded in death by his best friend, Grady Lariscy, and his grandparents, Jessie Asmon Weldon, Maggie Mae Ranew, Walter Trowell, and Lizzie Rucker.

Donnie was a high school graduate who led a fulfilling career as a maintenance mechanic/welder. He retired from Wheelabrator McKay Bay and most recently worked at Watt Works Energy. Donnie's work ethic was unparalleled, and he was known for his ability to fix anything that came his way. His colleagues respected him for his diligence and loyalty, and his family admired him for his unwavering commitment to providing for them.

A faithful attendee of Mt. Zion Assembly of God, Donnie's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as spending time with his family, tinkering in his shop, building trailers, grills and serving up Big D's BBQ. Donnie's BBQs were a highlight for his friends and family, filled with laughter, good food, and memorable stories. His love for fishing was not just a hobby, but a testament to his patience (because he didn't catch very many fish), and his love for spending time with his family.

Donnie's life was guided by kindness, resourcefulness, and thoughtfulness. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer a listening ear, and share his time freely. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, from his dedicated work to his time spent creating beautiful memories with them.
Donnie lived his life touching the lives of everyone he met with his kind-hearted, quick-witted and memorable presence.

Donnie Weldon was a man of integrity, love, and faith. He will be remembered not only for his achievements and skills but more importantly, for his character and the love he shared with those around him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones. Rest in peace, Big D. You will be dearly missed.

The family will receive friends and family on Monday, October 30, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Assembly of God, 3005 Thonotosassa Rd, Plant City FL 33565. Funeral service to follow at 11 AM.
