Derrell Eugene Cannington

Derrell Eugene Cannington, age 71, of Plant City, Florida, passed away on August 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and kindness that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Born on September 23, 1954, in Tampa, Florida, he was the son of the late Eugene Cannington and the late Eloise Gafford. Derrell grew up with a strong sense of family and responsibility, qualities that would remain with him throughout his life. He carried himself with quiet strength and a dependable spirit, and those who knew him came to appreciate his steady presence and generous heart.

Derrell was a devoted husband to Susan Cannington for 53 years, and their marriage was a lasting example of love, loyalty, and companionship. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories, challenges, and blessings. He was also a loving brother to Donald Cannington, and the bond he shared with his family was an important part of who he was. His family will remember him not only for the years they shared, but also for the warmth, humor, and sincerity he brought into their lives.

A skilled and wonderful mechanic, Derrell spent much of his working life at Jarret Scott Ford, where he earned the respect of coworkers and customers alike. He was known for being handy, reliable, and capable of solving problems with patience and care. His work reflected his character, and he took pride in doing each job well. Whether he was repairing a vehicle or lending a helping hand, Derrell approached every task with dedication and a strong work ethic.

Outside of work, Derrell enjoyed a life filled with simple pleasures and meaningful connections. He was a faithful member of 1st Freewill Baptist Church of Tampa, Florida, where his faith was an important part of his daily life. He found joy in racing, golfing, and bowling, and these interests brought him many happy moments over the years. 

He leaves behind a loving wife, Susan Cannington and his brother, Donald Cannington, who will cherish his memory. Though his earthly journey has ended, the example he set through his faith, his work, and his love for others will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Derrell Eugene Cannington's life was a testament to the value of hard work, steadfast faith, and genuine kindness. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Friends and family will be received from Wednesday, September 2, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Haught Funeral Home, 708 W. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd Plant City, FL 33563.
