Dakota Coy Hill, a vibrant soul known for his adventurous spirit and faith-filled heart, passed away on September 26, 2024, at the age of 22. Born on October 23, 2001, in Tampa, Florida, Dakota's life was a testament to the courage and ingenuity he carried within him. His untimely departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Dakota grew up in a close-knit family, cherished by his mother, Sherry Johnson-Knight, and surrounded by the love of his grandparents; LeJuan Hill, Mike and Sharon Johnson. He was a beloved brother to Shelby Johnson, Austin Frye, Jon Hill, and Taylor Hill. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Edward Hill Sr.
and Father Jonathan C. Hill. His family was his stronghold, and he was their unwavering pillar, always ready to lend a hand or share a moment of joy.
Professionally, Dakota was a skilled handyman in the construction industry, known for his ability to build and invent with remarkable ingenuity. His hands were his tools, and there was nothing he couldn't fix or create. Dakota's passion for his work was only matched by his love for the outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, he found peace and joy in nature's embrace.
Dakota's interests were as broad as his smile. He was an active member of the First Thonotosassa Missionary Baptist Church, where he devoted his time to assisting with maintenance, ensuring that the church was as welcoming and sturdy as his faith. His love for the outdoors was evident to anyone who knew him. He found peace in the simple pleasures of fishing and hunting, often sharing tales of his exploits, including the memorable moment captured in his obituary photo, where he is proudly holding an alligator.
Beyond his outdoor adventures, Dakota was an inventor at heart. His ability to build and create knew no bounds. Friends and family often said that he could do anything with his hands, and he lived up to that reputation time and again, leaving behind numerous tokens of his talent and creativity.
As we bid farewell to Dakota Coy Hill, we celebrate the time we were privileged to share with him. His spirit, characterized by boundless energy and a deep-seated belief in the goodness of life, will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
