Cecil Layton Obituary

Cecil Michael Layton, a cherished soul known for his adventurous spirit and selfless love, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2024, in his hometown of Plant City, Florida. Born on November 2, 1953, in the same close-knit community, Cecil's life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family and the simple joys of the outdoors. Cecil's journey began as the son of the late Cecil Hamilton Layton and the devoted Thelma Whitehead, who survives him. His life was a rich tapestry woven with the love of his daughters, Klesia (Gasper) Almaguer and Keeli (Shane) Garrison. His legacy continues through his cherished siblings, Linda (Richard) Lariscy and Dennis (Cindy) Layton, who stood by him through life's many seasons. A proud grandfather, Cecil's wisdom and laughter will live on in the hearts of his five grandchildren, Skyler (Austin) Brown, Treye Almaguer, Cody (Elizabeth) Garrison, Brady (Becca) Garrison, and Joshua Garrison. His three great-grandchildren, Abigail Brown, Parker Brown, and Elliana Garrison, will grow up hearing tales of their great-grandfather's love for life and the natural world. Cecil's working years were spent as a dedicated dragline operator with Mosaic in the phosphate industry, where he was known for his strong work ethic and camaraderie with his colleagues. His commitment to his work was matched only by his passion for the great outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, Cecil found solace and excitement in the embrace of nature, sharing this love with friends and family alike. Those who knew Cecil would describe him as the epitome of adventurous, loving, and selfless. His actions spoke louder than words, and he was always the first to lend a helping hand. His presence was a source of comfort and strength to all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Cecil embodied this sentiment, leaving an indelible mark on the world and in the hearts of those he touched. Cecil's life was a journey of joy, challenges, and triumphs. He navigated each with grace and a sense of humor that could light up the darkest room. His stories, often filled with laughter and wisdom, will be retold for generations, keeping his memory alive. As we bid farewell to Cecil Michael Layton, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a path well-trodden, and a man deeply loved. His spirit will continue to guide us, like a lighthouse to weary sailors, reminding us of the beauty in life's simple pleasures and the importance of family, friendship, and kindness. Cecil's life was a beautiful reflection of the values he held dear, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him. We take comfort in knowing that his journey has not ended but merely transformed, as he continues to watch over us with the same love and devotion that he showed in life. Cecil Michael Layton will be profoundly missed, but his light will forever shine in the lives of those he loved.
