Carroll Williamson Obituary

Carroll Floyd Williamson, 90, of Dover, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on September 15, 2026, surrounded by family. Born September 16, 1935, in Dover to Ernest and Mildred Williamson, Carroll spent his life deeply rooted in the community he called home.

Carroll attended Dover School; and was a graduate of Plant City High School where he played football and was a member of the Future Farmers of America. Plant City High School is also where Carroll met the love of his life, Emily Anne Poppell. The two went on to share an extraordinary 71 years of marriage and a lifetime of family, adventures, and memories together.

Throughout his life, Carroll was never afraid of hard work—or of trying something new. His working years took him from the phosphate mines and railroad to operating a gas station and garage. He later worked for Futch Appliance Company in maintenance, operations, and store sales in Brandon, Tampa, and Plant City. Eventually, Carroll found his way back to the land, going into strawberry farming, the career from which he ultimately retired.

Carroll had an adventurous spirit, a mischievous sense of humor, and was always a bit of a prankster. He loved hunting and fishing, traveling, watching SEC football, NASCAR, and spending time at the lake house. Over the years, Carroll took countless hunting and fishing trips with groups of friends all around the country - from the lakes and rivers of Florida and the Gulf of Mexico, all the way to Alaska. An animal lover, he enjoyed raising hunting beagles and always had a special place in his heart for the family's pets.

He could fix just about anything, was a natural salesman, and was well known for his fish fries and homemade hush puppies. But some of the smallest traditions may be the ones his family remembers most. Carroll never forgot the birthdays of his grandchildren. He would call and sing "Happy Birthday" to them, and he had a habit of clipping comic strips from the newspaper to share with them—simple gestures that became treasured family memories.

Carroll was a member of First Baptist Church of Dover and was active in his community throughout his life. His involvement included the Rotary Club, the Elks Club, the Wildlife Cookout, and James Ranch. He also served his community as Mayor of Brandon.
Above all else, Carroll loved his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Emily Anne Williamson; his daughters, Stacy Wills, whose husband Joe preceded Carroll in death, and Stephanie Williamson (Amy); his grandchildren, Patrick Wills (Lindsay), Timothy Wills, and David Wills (Erica); his great-grandchildren, Henry Wills and Emily Wills; his sister, Norma Jean Drawdy (Ronald); as well as nieces and nephews.
