Betty Francis Fissel, age 96, of Plant City, Florida, passed away on April 22, 2026. She was born on March 27, 1930, in Valrico, Florida, and lived a long life marked by devotion to her family, her work, and her faith.
Betty was the daughter of the late James Mason and Jessie Prater. She was a loving and kind woman whose gentle spirit touched the lives of many. Those who knew her will remember her for the warmth she shared, the steady care she gave to others, and the quiet strength with which she met life's joys and challenges.
She was preceded in death by her children, Johnnie Watkins, Garry Watkins, and Bruce Watkins, as well as her brother, J.L. Mason. Though she carried the sorrow of these losses, she remained a source of comfort and love to her family throughout her life.
Betty is survived by her children, Louise Scott and her husband Al, Danny Watkins, Sharon Reynolds, and Loretta Hart and her husband Keith. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Fendley, along with thirteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Her family was one of her greatest blessings, and she cherished each of them deeply. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she helped shape through her love, encouragement, and example.
Betty devoted many years of faithful service to Hillsborough County Schools, where she retired as a head custodian. Her work at Mango Yates and Seffner Elementary Schools reflected her strong work ethic and her commitment to providing a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students and staff. She took pride in her responsibilities and was respected for the care and dedication she brought to her work each day.
Outside of her work, Betty found strength and fellowship in her church home. She attended Landmark Baptist Church in Thonotosassa, where her faith was an important part of her life. Her church family and her loved ones will remember her as a woman who lived with grace, humility, and a sincere heart.
Betty Francis Fissel will be remembered as a loving and kind mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her life was a testament to faith, perseverance, and devotion to family. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Haught Funeral Home, 708 W. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd Plant City, FL 33563.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday April 29, 2026, at Hillsboro Memorial Park at 11:00 AM.
