William "Bill" Wingate, 94, of Dover, Florida passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Lakeland Regional Hospital under the care of Good Shepherd Hospice. William was born February 28,1924 in Ft. Meade, Florida. He is predeceased by his parents, William Leon Wingate and Maude Milford Wingate and 4 brothers, 3 sisters and his beloved wife of 61 years, Marguerite.
He is survived by 2 daughters, 2 grandchildren, and 2 greatgrandchildren. After graduating from Plant City High School, William joined the United States Navy in June of 1941. He was trained as an electrician and served aboard the USS Howard W. Gilmore during WWII in the Pacific Campaign. He was honorably discharged in January 1947 and then became employed as a civilian electrician at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida until he retired in June of 1972. He enjoyed his retirement years gardening at his home in Dover. A funeral service will take place on Friday September 28th at 2:00pm at Haught Funeral Home, 708 W. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Plant City, Florida. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
