Richard A. Magoon, age 79, died at home on Thursday, January 31, 2019, in Plant City, Florida.
He will be forever remembered by his devoted wife, Rita Magoon, and his daughters by his first marriage, Karen Pleschutznig (Andres), Kelly Garnick (Kevin), and Kathy Brady (Robert), as well as his eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-daughters: Leslie Edwards (Tom), and Michelle Sweeney (Kevin), as well as his seven step-grandchildren. Mr. Magoon is pre-deceased by his first wife, Nancy J. Leone and son, Andrew Magoon.
Richard served honorably in the US Air Force for 23 years in Communications. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY in Electronic Engineering and continued to work in the private sector for another decade in Bedford, MA.
He grew up on a farm in Modesto, California, but during his time in the military lived and traveled extensively. His young family was stationed at Aviano Air Force Base in Italy, Hill AFB in Utah, Croughton AFB in England and Griffiss AFB in Rome, NY. Additionally, he spent a year each in remote tours in Korea, Greece, Turkey and Greenland. After his retirement, he settled in New Hampshire. He gave himself the nickname "Yankee Dreamer". He was an amateur inventor, a Ham radio enthusiast and a lover of trains. He devoted considerable time to convincing New Hampshire towns to support a commuter rail to Boston.
A full Military Service will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on April 24th time TBD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donations be made to the National Association of American Veterans, www.naavets.org.
