Kenneth Mathes Obituary

Kenneth George Mathes, 80, of Plant City, Florida, passed away, Sunday, April 14, 2019 at his home peacefully with his wife by his side.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 20th at Youmans Praise and Worship Center, 3816 US-92, Plant City, FL.

Kenny was born August 24, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Howard and Alice (Spressor) Mathes. Kenny had an identical twin brother Karl with whom he enjoyed many mischievous pranks and often switching places with each other. He married his high school sweetheart Wilma Jean Mathes on April 6, 1959. As his family began to grow he worked as a mechanic and later as a mill right for Cincinnati Milling Machine. Kenny and his family moved to Plant City, Florida in 1970. Kenny went to work for Disney World during the initial construction as a mechanic and diver. Leaving Disney to be closer to home he went to work for the City of Tampa and later the Lakeland Power Plant in 1981. He retired from the power plant in 2008. Kenny was a man who loved his family and God. And animals! Lots of animals! He loved to bowl, golf, old cars, boats, Ohio, and wood working. He was a hard worker that never slowed down. And he whistled where ever he went. Kenny a member of Youmans Praise and Worship Center.

Kenny is survived by his wife Wilma Mathes of 60 years, his sons, Brian and his wife DeeDee Mathes and Bruce and his wife Amy Mathes. He had 8 grandchildren: Craig Dixon, Megan Gregory Cunningham, Christopher and Nicholas Mathes, Kerri Vaughan, Jack and Andy Mathes, and Rebecca Cole. He also had 9 great grandchildren, Aaron and Evan Dixon, Jaida, Declan and Ezra Mathes, Melanie and Madison Cunningham, Tempi Vaughan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Alice Mathes, his brothers Gene and Karl Mathes and his daughter Tammy Mathes Gregory and his son Michael Mathes.

Kenny was a happy whistling man and he will missed very much.
