Joseph James White

Joseph James White “Sonny”, 84, of Plant City, Florida passed away in his home on August 15, 2018. Joseph was born on August 8, 1934 in Englewood, New Jersey to Joseph and Louise (Richie) White. He moved from Sherman, Connecticut to Plant City, Florida in 1996.

Joseph was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He is survived by his five children, Jodie Rogers and husband Daniel of Charlotte, North Carolina; Glenn White of Sebastian, Florida; Tammy Hayes and her husband Edward of Vero Beach, Florida; Brad White of Atlanta, Georgia; and Scott White and his wife Susan of Chester, New York; twelve grandchildren; Brandon (Lauren), Ashley (Michael), Natalia (Christopher), Alexis, Katrina, Clint, Deanna, Joseph C., Amanda, Joseph, Jordan, Jessica; seven step-grandchildren; Derek, Brittney (Richard), Graham, Daniel, Jessica, Nicole, Edward; nine great grandchildren; Gavin, Abigail, Ella, Jaide, Isaiah, Kevin, Justin, Stephen and Jesse Claire. He is also survived by his Best Friend and traveling partner David W. Epp. Joseph was predeceased by his parents.

Joe retired as the Vice President of Special Publications at Prentice Hall Publishing Company in Engelwood, New Jersey after 37 years of service. He also worked a second job at Good Samaritan Hospital Suffern, NY for many years while raising five children.

His faith in God, love of life and sense of humor brought him through many of life’s ups and downs. He loved his huge family and prayed for their health and happiness daily and was always available for “counseling” sessions. Joe loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was happiest when everyone would remain at the dinner table and talk for hours; sharing, reminiscing and laughing. Joe never met a stranger, he chatted with everyone he met; he even knew the cashiers names at Aldi’s, Publix and JC Penney.

He was a dapper dresser, who loved antiques, traveling, good food, dancing and a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who knew him.

A Celebration of Joseph’s life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 509 East Twiggs Street, Tampa, Florida.
