Joe Barger

Joe Vernon Barger, 85, passed away on February 25, 2018. Joe was born on January 7, 1933 in Idlewild, Tennessee. He lived in Tennessee and Florida. Graduated from Homestead High School in Homestead, Florida in 1950 and from the University of Tennessee in 1959. He had a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management and Accounting. He served two years in the Signal Corps with the 25th Division in Hawaii as a Crypto Instructor. He married Lorean Viers Barger on April 6, 1963, when they worked in the space program at Cape Canaveral in Florida on the Gemini and Titan III Programs. They were married for 48 years. They worked with the homeless to provide food, clothing and shelter. They were active members of the First Baptist Church in Plant City, Florida and the Plant City Lions Club. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at Haught Memorial Chapel. A service will follow at 3:00pm. Burial services will be held privately at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Haught Funeral Home, 708 W. MLK Jr. Blvd., Plant City, FL.
