Alvany E. (English) Wilson

Alvany English Wilson, 91, passed away December 14, 2018 at home in Valrico, FL. She was born November 21, 1927 in Plant City to Clyde English of Plant City and Molly Alvany Andrews of Hopewell, VA. Clyde was a son of Hillsborough County pioneer, Andrew Jackson English.

Her survivors include six nephews: Stephen of Roanoke, VA, Blair of Chicago, IL, David of Fort Myers, FL, Dan of Roanoke, VA, and Terry of Winter Haven, FL; and two nieces: Sharon Rogers of Berryville, VA, and Carolyn Wallis of Columbia, NC. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Julius, half-brother, Lamar, and her niece, Ann Richardson.

Ms. Wilson graduated from Plant City High and FL State University, earned her Master’s from the University of FL, and completed further post-graduate work at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She taught English and served as department head at Brandon High School where she later became Dean of Girls. She left Bandon High to become Supervisor of Language Arts for the Senior High Schools of Hillsborough County.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Brandon Service League. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Plant City and the Winsome Sunday School Class.

Family and friends will celebrate the life of this warm, gracious, accomplished, Southern lady at First Baptist Church Plant City on Saturday, January 12, 11:00 AM. Family will be present to welcome guests at 10:30. Church address: 3309 James L Redman Pkwy, Plant City, FL 33566.
